I remember wandering around smelly shops filled with "old stuff" when I was a kid, dragging behind my mom and grandma in antique shops, weekend after weekend. It was boring and all I wanted to do was read. Yeah, I was a bookworm back then, too.
I dabbled in thrifting in late high school and college when friends agreed to go with me. I searched for cheap movies (VHS, of course) and cool t-shirts. My best find was a Big Mac costume, with an accompanying McDonald's milkshake costume, that a friend and I wore to our dining hall for dinner one night. We were nuts, I realize this now, and had to field comments like "can I supersize you?" Nice. Should've seen that one coming.

Flash forward many (ugh) years and now, I'm the first one out of the car when we pull up to an antique store and I'm dragging my child all over creation (except she likes it, ha!) to thrift shops because I'm on the hunt. Rather than thrifting, we call it treasure hunting because we inevitably find something small and cute that N loves for ninety-nine cents or less. *smile*
We're in transition right now and we plan to move into our own place in the next month or so. Finding vintage treasures for our new home is exciting and gives me hope that it will truly feel like home. My number one priority over the next few months will be to get us settled and set up house. Oh and cook a lot, too, so I can justify all of my Pyrex purchases. *wink*
Do you treasure hunt? What are you collecting?

OH honey I would love to go treasure hunting with you! I have 3 teen boys (13-19) who just don't appreciate the finer things in life... ok the eldest does because we have scored some great clothing deals recently but otherwise...
I LOVE Pyrex and all the other cookware of old... bakelite, bake king, etc.... and yes I do have a small collection. It used to be much larger but I gave most of it away to friends who would use and appreciate it! (a friend in Alaska who lives in a 550 square foot one room cabin w/ her family of 6...) Vintage sheets get me every time as well plus old typewriters and old bakeware... (muffin tins etc!)
Have a wonderful day! I do believe it is time for a nap for me... 3 days of a fever is no fun! but that is okay because laundry got done today plus a batch of french toast for the freezer! which means cleared off counters!
Take care now! Enjoy the snow, and stay warm (because I know the wind if blowing in your neck of the woods... cause we live south of you and its blowing in Indiana!)
Ha!!! I bet that hamburger and milkshake onced belonged to Becky & Kate. They wore it for Halloween one year!! Ill have to dig up a picture!!
Pyrex dishes are all so pretty! I'm really not a thrifter... Not because I don't think I'd enjoy it, I've just never gone. I've done the yard sale thing a little bit and enjoyed that though.
Those photos are stunning! I really want to go treasure hunting!
I didn't realize pyrex made such pretty colored dishes!! The first pic makes me want to start a collection too!
Ok, can we please go together soon?! A day, down by you, thrifting, antiquing? Sounds fun! :)
Seth loves to go thrifting, too! He begs to go sometimes. I was also one of those kids being dragged behind my mother. I was not as much a fan then as I am now. ;)
I feel you! My home is decorated 90% from thrift stores findings!!!
Kind of the same thing. We just bought a house last month. My kitchen is very 50s. With I'm trying to keep it retro. So I went to the salvo and bought a bunch of things. I just am slowly decorating. Heck I don't even have my 50s table up.
So I have a couple Pyrex things but anything 70s and back I like to pick up!
Can't wait to see pictures of things you get!
