mani monday: ombre nails.

Colors used:
Base color: Blanc by Essie (not shown)
Colors: Tour de Finance, Play Date & Turquoise & Cacois, all by Essie

Last week was so much fun that I couldn't resist it - I'm back with another new manicure! It took me about an hour to do this but I'm kind of in love with it. *smile* I know it's not perfect and I'll definitely be trying this again with a different set of colors.

(sorry for the fuzz)

Technique:

First, I painted my nails with a single coat of plain white polish. Then, I took a make up sponge, cut it in half so I had a flat surface, and painted stripes of the colors I wanted to use. I put the make up sponge on top of my dry nail and pressed down pretty firmly. If the color didn't transfer all the way to the edges of my nail, I just lightly pressed it down a few times until I filled in my entire nail. I kept repeating the same process, painting stripes of my colors on the sponge, for each nail. After they dried, I put a coat of fast dry top coat on to make it shine!

A few things to note - you only need one make up sponge for this technique. You will need q-tips (or a paint brush) and nail polish remover to clean up as you will have polish around your nails and on your cuticle. Also, make sure your base white polish is completely dry before doing this! Check out this video (fast forward to 2:00) if you need more of a visual on how to do this.

I also want to say THANK YOU to those of you who have sent encouraging tweets and comments about how much you're enjoying my fashion and nail posts. It's something I've started recently, posting outfits and nail art - and it's so much fun! But, don't you worry - I'll still be posting about life, too. *wink*

They look GREAT!! The colors you chose look perfect together! Turquoise & Caicos is one of all time FAVS!! Do you find that Essie polish is pretty thin & runny, though?

I'm really enjoying seeing these posts! You are super talented with the nail art lady. I wish I was as diligent as you- I totally forget about my nails- I'm good until a nail breaks, then I bite them all and fall out of my routine. GAH!

I love how big nail art is getting but I am seriously sooo useless when it comes to doing my own nails. They look awful no matter what I do!
