guest post: the hubs on father's day.

Today, I've let the hubs take over my blog for his annual Father's Day post.
Hope you enjoy some words from my man!

"Daddy, what you doin'?"

This the latest little phrase that our little N has been putting into practice. I am shocked by just how curious our little person is! She wants to know what is going on, what things are, and, more importantly, she wants to know what we are doing.

It is on that question that I want to share for this Father's Day post ...
what are you doing?

It's a simple question, but there is so much more being contemplated in our little 2 years old's mind. She isn't asking, "what you doin'?" because she is bored or even nosey (well, maybe there is some truth to the nosey part!) but she is asking it because she is learning. She is learning from her mommy and her daddy.

One of the most important things a parent, a father does is model. She is learning from me. And it is not a classroom. It's not about books, lectures, or homework. She is learning by watching me live life. She is watching what I do and learning from my choices. She is listening to how I talk, what I say, and how I treat others. She is listening to what I say about her mommy, watching how I treat and respect her, and in what regard I hold her. She is always learning. She knows what love is because her mommy and daddy model true love before her. She knows how to smile because mine was the first she saw (sorry, babe, but you were otherwise occupied).

So, for this Father's day post, I want to challenge every mommy and especially the daddies out there who might be reading this. What are you doing? What have you modeled or "taught" your little person today? If you're anything like me, some days it's good and others, well, not so much. But you're a teacher nonetheless.

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
Joshua 24:15

We are Christians and as such, we are called to be like Christ. We know how to love because He modeled love for us. We know how to treat others because He showed us how. We know what to teach because He wants us to become like Him. So, my challenge is what are you modeling? What are you teaching? What are you doing? Just something to think about!

Happy Father's Day!

very nice post and oh so very true.

This will follow her through out life regarding how you and Tricia love. My husband & I have a great marriage because my parents did and I followed from them.

Little ones have eyes & ears and they pick up on things very easily.

Good job hubs on being a great dad!
